The Atlantic Wall
After more than 60 years most of these bunkers are still there. Even those, which one
blew up, lie usually in parts still there. In the meantime some are victims of the sea,
that take away more from the dunes year by year.
Some shelters are still used today by the Frenchmen; as beach bars, as weekend houses,
as repositories, garages or also only as foundation for a building.
Since my childhood I know these bunkers in France and played in them a lot. It is
paradoxical: In the meantime I can hardly imagine a beach without bunkers.
Later I began to photograph the bunkers particularly the inside. The decline progressed
partially already far. It had always something absurd for me to read in a building in France
suddenly German inscriptions.
